How to Export a PST File

Exporting a PST file is in most cases a simple task. You can either use the Outlook interface to export the file or just make a copy of the current .pst file.

Export Using Outlook

1. Open Outlook and select “Import and Export” from the File menu.

2. Select “Export a File”

3. Choose the file type you wish to export “PST” in this case.

4. In the next dialogue box select the folder that you want to export. This is the folder that should contain the PST file. It is recommended that you check the box that says “Include sub folders”

5. In the next dialogue box Type the file name for the exported file and choose the location you wish to export the file to. Then click the export button.

Exporting your PST file Manually

This really is not an export. In this method you are simply coping the PST file which contains all your mail, contacts, calendar events and the like. What is not copied over in this method is the actual setup of the e-mail address on the server you are pulling mail from.

To copy your pst file simply browse down to the location of your pst file and right click on the pst file and select copy. Now go to the location where you want to paste the document and right click on the mouse and select paste. Basically you are just making a copy of the PST file. This is very useful in case the old pst file becomes corrupt.

To find the PST file on your computer here are some helpful hints of where it may be located. We are also including a quick guide on showing hidden files and folders so you can manually browse down to the file location.
